Today marks the 70th anniversary of the foundation of Mebyon Kernow, a senior partner of the Wessex Regionalists in our struggle against the government’s artificial South West region.
MK was founded on 6th January 1951, initially as a pressure group, their inaugural meeting taking place at the Oates Temperance Hotel in Redruth. Early members included the novelist Daphne DuMaurier. It fortunes have waxed and waned over the decades, but it has been represented on Conwall Council since its inception as a unitary authority in 2009, as well as on town and parish councils.
Members of the Wessex Regionalists are allowed to also be members of parties not active within Wessex, and several of our members are also members of MK. We wish them well on this landmark anniversary. May they have many more years to come.
