The news of job losses in Dorset at the Larkin Windows factory in Weymouth is tragic, especially so close to Christmas.
As regionalists we obviously care about the region's economy and workforce. The closure of this company, with no warning to the loyal members of staff who turned up as usual for work, is not just tragic, but shows contempt for the workforce. Yet there is no legislation to prevent acts such as this from happening.
Any future Wessex Assembly needs to look at this issue as well as providing an economy where there is a safety net for businesses to ensure their survival to provide long term job prospects for the region.
