As a regionalist, rather than a nationalist party, the Wessex Regionalists do not seek full independence for our own region. Nonetheless, we fully support other peoples' right to determine the best solution for them. We cannot unequivocally support the unilateral declaration of independence following the referendum, as the Spanish govenment's brutal suppression of that referendum has rendered its results inconclusive. However, we believe that the Catalan people should be allowed to decide whether or not to remain a part of Spain, in a free and fair referendum, and that the Spanish and EU governments should abide by that decision.
Furthermore, we believe that it is not the place of the British government to try to overturn a democratic decision made by the citizens of another sovereign nation. We call upon the Prime Minister to recognise an independent Catalunya, should that be the clear and unambiguous wish of a majority of the Catalan people.
