The Wessex Regionalists - the party for Wessex, was founded in 1974, making it the oldest regionalist party in England. We have contested nine parliamentary elections since then, the last two standing against David Cameron in his Witney constituency.
We are a progressive, party believing in social, economic and environmental justice. We campaign for a minimum of devolution for Wessex, with the same powers passed to a Wessex Assembly as those devolved to Scotland. The people of Wessex have been let down by Westminster, and Wessex is a region in it's own right with a larger population than Scotland. Therefore we should at least receive the same powers of control over own own affairs as those received by Scotland and Wales.
Westminster has delivered war, austerity measures and expenses scandals. We believe another way is possible with greater democracy, greater public involvement in local decision making and by ending the Westminster diktat.
Westminster governs to put its own interests first. It delivers inflation busting M.P's pay increases and lavish expenses, peerages, cash for questions and drags us into conflicts at the taxpayers expense and those killed or maimed in action. The Wessex Regionalists are the only party calling for an end to the centralised Westminster diktat and for regional government and devolved democracy - giving the people of every county in Wessex a real voice.

It has been clear to me since the mid-70's that neither the Westminster Parliament no many who seek to 'govern' there are fit for purpose. That is why in 1980 I co-founded the Wessex Regionalists - the party for Wessex.
Illegal wars, white collar theft, ermine flecked crime, ministerial bribery for personal gain, and now a national debt of thousands of millions. This is but the tip of an iceberg pointing to further punishment and social unrest and it is now as never before we all must ensure government changes from 'top-down' diktat to representative 'bottom-up' democracy.
We are the only people that can ensure it happens.
Wessex is an established region of some 8 million people which is part of the fabric of the British Isles - yet Westminster refuses to give it a voice!
We are a region which has its own flag, proud history, traditions, cultural heritage and its own day - St.Aldhelm's Day celebrated on May 25th each year.
If you believe in social, economic and environmental justice, increased local democracy and devolved government for Wessex, the fact is the Wessex Regionalists are the only party that will deliver this. Come and join us and help build the Party for Wessex.
